Epstein-Barr (EBV) Testing

An Epstein-Barr (EBV) testing, also known as a Monospot, detects antibodies in a blood sample to help diagnose infectious mononucleosis (mono). A positive result indicates the presence of these antibodies, which are produced during an EBV infection or from a previous EBV infection. A negative result does not definitively rule out mono, as some individuals, particularly children, may not produce heterophile antibodies.
