KBMO Gut Panel Barrier Test

We have partnered with a company so we can offer a unique Gut Barrier Panel to better understand issues with leaky gut, which occurs across a very wide range of individuals. We look at the following biomarkers:

  • Candida
  • Zonulin
  • Occludin
  • Lipopolysaccharides (LPS).

For each marker, we measure IgG 1-4 /C3d in addition to IgA 1 and 2. An explanation of each biomarker is listed below.

Candida is a type of fungus, and “candidiasis” refers to an infection caused by it. It can affect various parts of the body, with common infections including yeast infections in the vagina, oral thrush in the mouth and throat, and skin infections. We measure and use any candida overgrowth in the stomach/dysbiosis as a precursor to leaky gut occurrence.

Zonulin is a marker of intestinal permeability, otherwise known as leaky gut. If a patient has elevated Zonulin levels, the normal regulation of the tight junctions is compromised.

Occludin is a marker of tight junction stabilization and optimal barrier function. Elevated occludin indicates that the tight junctions are breaking down.

Lipopolysaccharides (LPS).  LPS is a major structural component of the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria. Elevated levels of antibody against LPS may be indicative of Leaky Gut Syndrome and other gastrointestinal inflammatory diseases.

Testing instructions: You will be given a set of the specific instructions to follow for collecting a blood sample when you receive the test kit. The blood sample is a finger poke.
